The Green Streets Festival in downtown Phoenix is a FREE community event open to the public on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 6PM to 10PM, celebrating green initiatives, sustainability, arts and urban living as the grand finale of the annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo coming to Phoenix November 11th-13th. Welcoming more than 25,000 out-of-state Greenbuild attendees and the local community, the Green Streets Festival on Friday evening will feature a premier Green Zone on Roosevelt St between 4th St and 7th St for vendors and demonstrations showcasing eco-friendly, sustainable products and services, information about energy and water saving resources and programs, and green job training opportunities.
Roosevelt Street is the hub of the First Friday Art Walk in the City of Phoenix, the largest free, monthly art walk in the nation that attracts diverse crowds of over 20,000! The event will also feature local arts and crafts from First Friday’s finest, live music from some of AZ's best local bands, locally-grown food prepared by favorite local chefs, a downtown pub crawl and a beer garden hosted by Arizona’s own Four Peaks Brewing Company featuring seasonal local brews!
The festivities don't end on Friday evening! Saturday, November 14 features more green & cultural events downtown. Start your day with a green thumb and join the neighborhood tree planting as part of the Mayor's Annual Day for Downtown or get "HandsOn" at the Grow House Community Garden, welcome a new family of urban hens and learn how to build a chicken tractor. Take a stroll, enjoy the weather and visit the Downtown Phoenix Public Market and the funky boutiques, galleries and cafes of the Roosevelt Row Arts District. Other highlights of the day include the Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale, an art-exclusive vendor block party featuring First Friday's finest artisans, live music, an evening Downtown Partnership Expo and the Phoenix Annual Parade for the Arts.
Partners include the AZ Chapter of the USGBC, City of Phoenix, Urban Affair, Downtown Phoenix Partnership, Phoenix Community Alliance, HandsOn Greater Phoenix, ASU Downtown, Strange Family Circus & Stinkweeds Music.
